Colonial beekeeping

Watch local beekeepers at work, and learn how they used not just the honey but the wax! This is a perfect opportunity to see honeybees live in action and to learn about their important role in survival in colonial times!

3rd Annual Monarch Butterfly release with Ed Wesely (Founder, Butterfly Barn). Local Girl Scouts Brownie Troop 448 will give away milkweed pod & pollinator clay seed disk (by SunshineSeedRZ) - Tour the Tusten Heritage Community Garden. Children welcome & encouraged. Vendor Market

Local and regional vendors will have a variety of bee related goodies, including local honey, beeswax, candles, honey based food, bee friendly clothing, pollinator plants, natural soap and honey made cosmetics. Make sure to pop into the Main Street Merchants as well for even more honey based menus, honey wine, honey spirits, books and wonderful bee gifts!

If you are a beekeeper you will not want to miss this. NY Apiculturist Paul Cappy will be giving a brief lecture on American Foul Brood which has had a recent outbreak in NY State. He will discuss how to diagnose, treat and prevent future outbreaks. An absolute must if you keep hives!

Honey Spirit Tastings

Narrowsburg Fine Wine and Spirits will have a tasting of KAS Krupnikas, a family recipe distilled with local honey and a secret blend of spices. Barrows Ginger Intense Liqueur will also be at hosting a cocktail tasting with their delicious mixer.

Narrowsburg Proper will have Claire Marin owner and creator of Catskill Provisions, offering cocktails using her own Catskill Provisions whiskey and honey.

one mIle Honeybee Fun Run

The Chi Hive presents a one mile Honeybee Fun Run, come dressed as a bee and run, walk or jog through Narrowsburg! The start and finish are at in front of the Narrowsburg Uinion.

Main Street Parade and costume Contest

Lineup: 12:15, The Union, 7 Erie Ave.

Get your best bee costume on, dress up the kids, the dog and drive down in your vintage car and join the Honeybee Parade! Line is at 12:15 at The Union and the parade will march down Main Street. Then stick around because those costumes will be reviewed by "Special Guest" judges who will award cash prizes to the best Adult and Kids costumes!

Pollinator Migration

A panel of bee experts discuss beekeeping, gardening and the current problems facing bees and other pollinators. Guest speakers for 2017 include Master Beekeeper Frank Licata and Scott McArt, honeybee researcher at Cornell University's Pollinator Network. Susie and Rich from Cackletown Honey Farm return again this year to to demonstrate the fascinating method of extracting honey from the comb!

Beehive Health Seminar

Dr. Scott McArt, Cornell University

Dr. McArt, assistant professor of pollinator health at Cornell University will hold a 1 hour seminar on common parasites/pathogens in New York and how individual beekeeper management practices contribute to overall health of bees in the state. He will also offer simple methods to assess varroa levels as well as diagnosing other problems in the hive. 

Beekeeping 101

Master Beekeeper Charlie Kinbar return again this year for a 1 hour crash course in beekeeping. Charlie is currently the President of the Northeast PA Beekeepers Association in Honesdale, PA and a former PA bee inspector. With over 30 plus years experience to share this class is not to be missed, perfect for both new and experienced beekeepers of all ages.

Mildred Archaeology

Mildred's Lane

Mildred Archaeology is an ongoing project revealing hidden histories of Mildred’s Lane. The old farmhouse on site is a small, 1830-1840s homestead with a 1790s hearth. We call this historic building The Mildred House, and The Mildred’s Lane Transhistorical Society and Museum. J. Morgan Putt will also be selling her families Big Island Honey from Hawaii all day.

DVAA presents Andi Rae and the Back River Bullies! Kick up yer boots after Honeybee Fest with Andi Rae and the Back River Bullies, an indie-country band straight outta Brooklyn. Described as “a dangerous woman,” Andi writes and performs original honky-tonk tunes with a healthy dose of flair.
